DESCRIPTION:Distinguished Alumni Series: In conversation with the Hon Andrew Bell\, Chief Justice of NSW Supreme Court\n  \nIn-person event\nJoin us for this special â€˜in conversation’ event with University of Sydney Law School alumnus and the newly appointed 18th Chief Justice of NSW\, the Hon Andrew Bell\, and alumna Nicole Abadee. \nThe Chief Justice will reflect on his life and times at the Law School\, as a judge’s Associate\, at the University of Oxford\, NSW Bar and on the NSW Court of Appeal. His Honour will also discuss how the legal profession has changed\, the enduring value of a law degree and where it might lead you and what makes a good law teacher – and judge. \nThis Distinguished Alumni Series is an occasional program of talks featuring eminent graduates of the Law School. \n  \nSpeakers\nChief Justice Bell \nPrior to his new position as NSW Supreme Chief Justice\, the Hon Andrew Bell was appointed as the President of the NSW Court of Appeal in February 2019. During his time\, he has presided over numerous high-profile appeals in both the Court of Appeal and Court of Criminal Appeal. His Honour led a team of nine appeal judges and two acting judges of appeal\, with the responsibility for overseeing more than 300 matters which come before the Court of Appeal every year. Prior to his appointment to the Bench\, Chief Justice Bell practised as a barrister for 24 years and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2006. Throughout that time\, he appeared in 30 appeals in the High Court of Australia and conducted an extensive international arbitration practice. His Honour brings not only breadth and depth of knowledge to the role of Chief Justice\, but proven leadership abilities from his three years as President. His academic achievements include two University Medals from Sydney University\, and a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University\, where he graduated in first place (post-graduate) Bachelor of Civil Law and also completed a doctorate. \nNicole Abadee \nNicole Abadee is a University of Sydney alumna.
