The Hague Judgments Convention and Commonwealth Model Law – A Conversation With Dr. Abubakri Yekini

The Hague Judgments Convention and Commonwealth Model Law – A Conversation With Dr. Abubakri Yekini

This presentation will examine the concept of legal pragmatism in private international law and how it has been used by courts and treaty makers to solve practical legal problems arising from the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments.

Specifically, it will analyse how pragmatism was applied in the negotiation and conclusion of the 2005 Choice of Court Convention, the 2019 Hague Judgments Convention and the 2017 Commonwealth Model Law on Foreign Judgments.
