Corporate Governance Consideration during the COVID-19 – A Taiwanese Lesson of Corporate Social Responsibility and the Director’s Duty

During the pandemic, companies have activated their business differently and followed restrictions issued by authorities. How should the board of directors react to this crisis with the best interests of the company, will this crisis change the roles of the board of director differently? Should the company focus on long-term or short-term goals? How can the board monitor the management efficiently during a lock down? Can shareholders remain engaged with social distancing? Of the 100-plus countries and territories affected, Taiwan has the lowest incidence rate per capita — around 1 in every 500,000 people. This webinar will consider the implications of recent amendments to Taiwanese corporate law for companies during the pandemic.

Speakers

Dr Edith Su

Edith I Tzu Su is an associate professor in National Chung Hsing University in Taiwan. Dr Su studied law at National Cheng Chi University in Taiwan and completed her postgraduate studies at Washington University in Saint Louis in the United States. Her research interest centers on the intersection of law and business as well as legal education and she has published widely in these fields. Her research has attracted funding support from the Ministry of Science and the Ministry of Education in Taiwan.

Grace Borsellino

Grace Borsellino is a Lecturer and Course Convenor in Corporate Law and Governance at Western Sydney University, School of Law. Grace’s research interest is in Corporate Law, Corporate Culture and the Regulation of FinTech, the Digital Economy, and Blockchain related Cryptocurrencies and she has been an invited speaker on these topics both domestically and internationally (including in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Malaysia). Grace has developed new units at Western Sydney University on Technology, Innovation and The Law and Designing Law Apps for Access to Justice.
