This free webinar will discuss EU Directive 2017/828 on long-term shareholder engagement, with a particular focus on and its transposition into Spanish law. The webinar will explore the potential advantages of applying blockchain technology to securities holdings systems and voting at general meetings. The provisions of the Directive will be examined to discuss whether the use of distributed ledgers technology could facilitate complying with these new rules. Potential legal obstacles to the adoption of the technology at a larger scale will also be discussed.

Presenter
Dr Zofia Bednarz, University of Malaga Spain
Dr Bednarz is a Lecturer in Commercial Law at the University of Málaga, Spain. Her research focuses on the law of new technologies, such as e-commerce, digital sharing economy, and blockchain technology. Much of her work adopts a comparative legal methodology. She has authored numerous articles, book chapters and a monograph on the issues related to the commercial law and technology.

Zofia is a member of various multidisciplinary academic working groups, both Spanish and international, on the DLT (BAES Blockchain Labs and BAWG – Blockchain & Academia Working Group), and also works as a researcher in projects funded by the Spanish national government and Andalusian government on the company law and blockchain technology.
